Blue: Bollywood's shame

AR Rahman could have as well made Blaaze and co sing '....Blues...' instead of '..Blueeeeeeeeeeee, Buluuu..'! The headache we are rewarded with for watching this far overwhelms the only plus of the movie - the songs. It is entirely believable if we are told Rahman took up this assignment just because if was paid a bomb. Nothing else could have inspired him to take up a dumb project like this. Well,my focus in this post is on him because his association lured me to go watch this. Otherwise i would have struck to my long standing rule of watching movies based only on the sole criteria - the filmmaker. A debutant director here poured in a 100 crores to dish this trash, almost with a confidence of making another Dhoom2 on an extra large scale! It's unbelievable. Not a single scene looked imaginative! Dialogues are dumb and aimless. Even the superb songs are picturised with little taste. Just see Fiqraana to get my point. There is no soul. All we are dished out are those stunts we can sit home and watch in star movies. Collectively, all actors can say this is their worst movie in acting department. The credit goes to the debutant director. It is a shame to call this Bollywood's most ambitious project just because the makers had too much money to waste. And about Rahman's choices, I learnt my lesson. I will Stick to my rules.

Amar,

I dont know what Rahman has to do with the complete output of the project. Before making his choice, hardly he would have had a few sittings with director-producer where the story would have been narrated or atmost a bound script. Also The makers would have come up with their famous tag line to him " BLUE - First Underwater thriller on Indian Screen and costliest film ever made". Rahman also never tried this genre so he may have accepted. But dont you think the execution of script is different from narration. Just look at the performances in films..utter rubbish esp sanjay dutt or Zayed khan...And Dialogues were par below grade...Holding Rahman responsible for the hell you experienced is a bit too much yaar :)

Sandeep,

“…Before making his choice, hardly he would have had a few sittings with director-producer where the story would have been narrated or atmost a bound script”

Do you really think they had a bound script!? Even is they had, it would have got only one line, as you said - " BLUE - First Underwater thriller on Indian Screen and costliest film ever made"! The latter part of that line obviously meant big big bucks for Rahman. I say that because Rahman is too busy with very important projects to spare time for even regulars like Ashutosh Gowarikar. They why would he jump into a débutante project if not for the big bucks? I mean Rahman did not even collaborate with these producers earlier.

“..But dont you think the execution of script is different from narration”

I really don't think there was anything to narrate about what we saw. Its lame. There wasn't a single spark.

If we look at all recent Rahman’s ventures, they all were from filmmakers with some credibility. The subjects were engaging and were good inspiration for Rahman’s background score. This is obviously found lacking in BLUE.For once, it shows Rahman is not completely involved in this project as his usual self. Maybe he thought its time he raise some money for his foundation.

Amar,

I would say, I liked the movie, may be because my expectations had gone down before watching it, by listening to so many bad reviews.
I liked the way it was shot underwater. I liked some action sequences and above all Akki was good.

All the time we keep complaining about industry for producing routine movies and when someone comes up with new stuff, we are comparing it national geographic channel, I think its unfair.

I would appreciate Anthony's effort in giving us something new. And I guess it was Kylie's song which lured Rahman to accept this project.

And guys it's my opinion. Nothing Personal.

Sachin :-)

Ofcourse buddy, personal things wudnt be blogged abt :)

I agree its is unfair to compare Blue with an NGC program for the latter or far more entertaining :)

I wud have loved to see something new but not if it ONLY meant underwater photography with a whopping 100 crore budget. If not a well-made action flick, I would have loved to see a sensible 'Jab We Met' which incidentally was produced by these same producers when they didnt have too much cash to squander.

I agree with you about Kylie being the reason for Rahman to take this up. This could be one reason.
